Accomplished Author & National Leader in Higher Education, Lawrence Pettit, has endorsed John Mues for U.S. Senate
The former CEO of the Montana University System and accomplished professor, author and leader in public policy, Lawrence Pettit, endorsed John Mues to serve all Montanans in the U.S. Senate. Originally from Lewistown, Montana who resides in Helena, Pettit’s robust national career in higher education and public policy established him as one of America’s best thought-leaders in public education, educational institution management and public policy. Pettit served in Washington, D.C. on the staffs of Montana U.S. Senators James E. Murray and Lee Metcalf. He was the campaign manager for Montana Governor Tom Judge in 1972.
John Mues is a 4th generation Montanan, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, a veteran and former naval officer with service in Middle East and a former public school teacher, who grew up in Deer Lodge, Helena and Wolf Point. He earned his MBA from the London Business School and has a career in the private sector as an energy development engineer, including renewable energy development.
With his endorsement of John Mues to be elected to the U.S. Senate, Lawrence Pettit issued this statement:
John Mues is the real thing. After a three-hour lunch with him during the beginning of his campaign, I walked away in awe. To me he embodied exactly what we should want to see in a Montana political leader, not just at home, but also in Washington.
It’s not that his resume is one all of us can value – 4th generation Montanan; rural roots and still a rural resident; U.S. Naval Academy graduate, engineer, naval officer in a combat zone; priceless international experience – graduate degree in business in London, experience in Israel; childhood in a struggling single-parent household; high-level work experience in the private sector (energy); conversant on all the important issues, and more. In addition, John is a warm, generous and sincere human being, engaging, a good listener, down-to-earth.
Finally, John really believes what in Montana are the two great equalizers: public lands and public education. He knows these are special to our state, and, perhaps more important than anything else, John Mues knows in his gut that what unites us as Montanans is far greater than what divides us into Republicans and Democrats. Moreover, he knows that as a U.S. Senator in 2021 – in this perilous time – one of his major responsibilities will be to work toward re-uniting our nation in a common identity, healing the wounds, and saving and energizing our democratic republic.
